Easy Gold With Alchemy: Skyrim

September 19th, 2013 by Sean Eastman

By far the easiest way to make gold in my opinion, is to take up Alchemy. There is a trainer in Whiterun (Arcadia from Arcadia's Cauldron) that can train you up to a 75 Alchemy skill. Reading and employing the techniques I describe in my post on Pickpocket Training should render training up to 75 free and easy.

You can make easy gold from Alchemy at any point in your Alchemy skill climb. But once you have a higher alchemy skill, you can make thousands and thousands of gold in minutes. Ingredients are plentiful in the world. If you run from Riverwood to Whiterun, following the road, you will pick up dozens upon dozens of ingredients on the sides of the road alone. Good thing is, most of these ingredients (red, blue, purple mountain flowers, lavender, tundra cotton, etc.) all mix together. By the time you get to Whiterun, you could make 50 or more potions easy, and sell them for an enormous profit.

But, if you don't want to scavenge for ingredients, you can just go to an Alchemy shop (Arcadia's Cauldron for example) and buy all the ingredients that they have for sale, minus the ones that cost like 300 gold a piece, like Void Salts. Then, turn around and create 2,000 gold worth of potions having only bought 300 gold worth of ingredients. Then simply fast travel to a different city and repeat. You get the best results from mixing three ingredients together. Try to find three ingredients that give your potion 3 or 4 effects for maximum profit.

The best mix of ingredients, in my opinion, is the Giant's Toe and Wheat. With this combination (and a few pieces of armor that enhanced my alchemy) I was creating single potions worth over 3,500 gold. Sometimes even over 5,000 gold a piece. This is very, very easy gold. I never went broke again.
